Withdraw from Classes
What is withdrawing from a course means?
Courses will appear in the transcript as (W) but will not affect the GPA, however, it will be included in the tuition fees. The difference between dropping a course and withdrawing from a course is based on the time at which the student decides to stop participating in a class. If a student decides to stop participating in a course BEFORE the withdrawal deadline, it is defined as dropping a course. If a student decides to stop participating in a course AFTER the deadline, it is defined as withdrawing from a course. If a student drops a course, the course will not be included on their transcript. If a student withdraws from a course, the course will be included on their transcript with a 'W.' This 'W' indicates to transcript reviewers that the student attempted the course but eventually withdrew prior to completing the course for a letter grade. 'W's do not count towards a student's GPA.
What are the consequences of having W's on my transcript?
Many students who contemplate withdrawing from a course wonder about how W's will be received and perceived by others, such as employers or graduate schools. What you decide to do after attending Alfaisal University will help you determine the consequences of having W's on your transcript. Students interested in pursuing additional education at graduate school should avoid withdrawing from courses as a GPA management strategy. Having one or two W's on your transcript may not be a big deal to most graduate schools, but if you have multiple W's on your transcript, it may lead some reviewers to question your ability to complete a rigorous and demanding curriculum. Therefore, it is wise to consult with your academic advisor, your faculty advisor, and the graduate school you anticipate attending to make sure a 'W' on you transcript will not adversely impact your admissions application. Some employers may request a copy of your transcript and evaluate it before offering you a job. Having multiple 'W's on your transcript may lead them to question your ability. Again, be careful about using course withdrawal as a way to manage your GPA.
Can I just stop going to class to withdraw from a course?
NO. In fact, students sometimes make this very serious mistake. If you no longer want to participate in a course for which you are enrolled, YOU MUST COMPLETE the withdraw e-form through the University Portal
Can I withdraw from all courses?
Yes, by submitting a semester withdraw e-form through the University Portal
Who should I talk to before withdrawing from courses?
Withdrawing from a course or courses is an important decision. Students often view withdrawal as a preventive measure to avoid damaging their grade point average (GPA). In addition to considering the impact of withdrawing on their GPA, students should also consider the implications withdrawing may have on their time to graduation and financial aid eligibility and repayment. For these reasons, students would be wise to consult with their academic advisor and financial aid counsellor before completing a withdrawal from a course or from the University.
How I can withdraw from a course?
By submitting, an E-form named Course Drop/Withdrawal through the University Portal.
Do I have to pay for the courses that I withdrew from?
